The Day I Found Out

I remember the day I found out I was pregnant so clearly. I had been waiting all week, and finally, the morning I could take a test arrived.

It was Monday morning, around 8 AM on October 13. I took the test, turned it upside down, and waited through what felt like the longest minute of my life before nervously turning it back around.

And there it was.

I was pregnant.

I always imagined this moment, but nothing I imagined came close to the real thing. I felt so many emotions at once, but above all, the happiness and gratitude I felt in that moment stood out. I called Jordan straight away to tell him. Of course, he was incredibly happy, but apparently not quite as surprised as I was. He told me he already had a sense I was pregnant. While I had been waiting for the day I could finally test, he had even dreamt that I was pregnant with a little girl. And in the end, his dream came true.

The next day, on 14 October, I took another test to be sure. Once again, it was positive.

Later that day, I went to tell my parents and sister. Their reactions were amazing, but I remember my mum’s most clearly. She started jumping up and down, let out a little scream of happiness, and immediately came over to hug me. My dad kept smiling and saying how fantastic the news was, while my sister was just as excited for us. Their reaction filled my heart and left me with a warm memory I still look back on often.

After I told Jordan, my parents, and my sister, I had to tell my best friend too. She was excited and so supportive. She truly had the best reaction.

My dad told me he’d arrange an appointment for my first ultrasound so we could confirm the pregnancy and make sure everything was developing as it should.

And so, later that week, on 18 October, I went with my mum and dad to see our little bean for the first time. Jordan was in the UK at the time, so I called him after the appointment to tell him everything. He was grateful, excited, and just as happy as I was.

The gynaecologist confirmed that I was indeed pregnant and that everything was developing well.

But what seemed like a simple confirmation to her meant so much more to us.

Our wish had come true. We were going to have a baby, and our lives had changed forever in the best way possible.
